  • Spot Contracts:
Spot contracts involve the direct exchange of the commodity for cash. It is the simplest form of commodity trading where the transaction occurs “on the spot.”

  • Futures Contracts:
Futures contracts obligate the buyer to purchase, or the seller to sell, a specific quantity of the commodity at a predetermined price on a future date.

  • Options Contracts:
Options contracts provide the buyer with the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a commodity at a predetermined price on or before the expiration date.

  • Forward Contracts:
Similar to futures contracts, forward contracts are customisable agreements between two parties to buy or sell a commodity at a future date for an agreed-upon price.

  • Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs):
Commodity ETFs track the performance of a specific commodity or a basket of commodities. They can be traded on stock exchanges like regular stocks.

  • Exchange-Traded Notes (ETNs):
ETNs are debt securities that track the performance of a specific commodity index. They are traded on stock exchanges like stocks and do not own the physical commodity.

  • Contracts for Difference (CFDs):
CFDs are derivatives that allow traders to speculate on the price movements of commodities without owning the actual asset. The profit or loss is determined by the difference between the opening and closing prices.

  • Options on Futures:
These are options contracts where the underlying asset is a futures contract. Traders can use options on futures to hedge or speculate on commodity price movements.

  • Binary Options:
Binary options are financial products with a fixed payout based on a yes/no proposition related to the price of a commodity at a specific time.

  • Over-The-Counter (OTC) Derivatives:
OTC derivatives, such as XAUUSD (gold/US dollar), involve privately negotiated contracts between two parties. These can include various customised agreements related to commodity prices.

  • Spread Betting:
Spread betting is a form of derivatives trading where traders bet on the price movements of commodities without owning the underlying asset.

  • Commodity Mutual Funds:
Mutual funds focused on commodities allow investors to gain exposure to a diversified portfolio of commodities through a professionally managed fund.
